Hi ladies (and Brett, although I'll be surprised if he reads this, cause he's SUPER SUPER BUSY, not cause he doesn't support me. Heck, he's doing this challenge!! He's the best :),
Last year when we did the healthy habits we used this blog to post different things. I've meant to post the new rules and get it going again.
First of all, I'm so happy so many people have wanted to do this challenge. I've been wanting to be better with my eating habits and being in charge motivates me to try harder. We're into week 4 and I hope it's been a positive thing. 12 weeks is LONG. For reals long. But I hope with the options to have 2 freebies a day, or a chance at a gift card, etc. that it's a little easier to go so long.
Here's my main weakness - treats. It's good and bad that I can have 2 freebies a day. Some weeks I've had a treat every day!! That's not great for me, but there it is. My goal by the end of this challenge is to be able to eat a treat cause I want to, not because I'm stressed, bored, bugged or starving. To eat it cause I love it and it's good. I eat too much crap that isn't that good but I still eat it. Ugh.
I'm hoping if anyone has a story, problem, recipe to share, success or anything...they'll share it. I know we'll all have good days and bad days so if you want to vent, complain, whatever, do it!! And if you ever want some support, call or text me (or someone)... sometimes just talking it out to someone helps a lot.
Thanks all!!
Healthy Habits Challenge
You've got what it takes but it will take EVERYTHING you've got!

Okay so...
...I really meant to post things on the blog but I'm sure you noticed I was not really in the running so I didn't have any good advice ... ;) Which was all me, so I'm not complaining. I wanted to tell everyone how great it was hearing how this was helping so many people. That was awesome.
I also wanted to say thanks to Chelsa for putting this together. I have done a healthy habits competition before so I gave her my two cents but she really did the bulk of it. She always said it wasn't about the money and I believe her. Her name was pulled twice in the weekly drawings and she wouldn't take it! I know she answered lots of questions daily and most importantly worked her butt off!!
So thanks to everyone for playing and for motivating each other. Everyone did great. Even if you didn't get tons of points but changed one habit you wanted to I think it was worth it.

Final Winners
Sorry once again for the late posting. Some stragglers and yesterday was out of control for me. I have tried and tried to post my spreadsheet on here as an add on but apparently I am not that smart. I didn't want to re-type everyone in so I have added a picture of the final shakedown if anyone wanted to know. It could be a little blurry. I don't know what else to do. Other then that here are the winners.
First Place - Chelsa Johnson with 499 total points - $200
Second Place - Nikki Holbrook with 495 total points - $160
I forgot to give a big shout out to Nikki. She is almost 20 weeks pregnant. I could not have done what she did. Also, this is an add on, she is is jumping on the band wagon and sharing 30 bucks with Jessica. You ROCK too!!
Third Place - Kristi Marshall with 7.14% body weight lost - $120
I want to say thank you again for all those who participated. I have heard from many of you how good this has been and how it has made changes in your life. I want to give a couple shout outs without names, they will know who they are. One of you has diabetes and has said she has never felt better nor has she had it under control so well. Many of you lost 10+ pounds, I think that is amazing. Way to go! I know that I feel a ton better about myself. The results I got were more then enough winnings for me. I don't crave the sugar as much, even though I still want to eat it. I am more likely to not give in because I don't want to ruin all my hard work by going back to old habits. So with that said, I've told many of you that I did not start this thing for the money. I originally thought we'd have like 8 people. It was never about that for me. I just wanted to fix some things that I felt were broken. And then my competitive side kicked in. I know that I am not the only one that worked hard. Jessica came in 3rd place with points and is nearly 40 points ahead of the 4th point place person. Poor Ashley thought she had won the % and called me back the next day and told me she had looked at her paper wrong and would feel guilty taking the money. So where she had won by .46% she now was in 2nd by .11% And then there is Amy Bybee who was also super close in % of weight loss. So we have three extra winners that I will be sharing my cash with...
Jessica Bastian - 481 will get $35
Ashley Graves - 7.03% body weight loss will get $35
Amy Bybee - 6.40% body weight loss will get $30
Also the final week gift certificate winners are
Rebecca Petersen
and
Britney Ericksen
Sorry ladies the only certificates left are for Roxberry Smoothie.
Amy or myself will be bringing around the cash and certificates to those of you who won. By the way, a big shout out to Amy for helping me through this thing. Not only did she do all the drawings and pick up certificates she also took multiple calls a day from me asking for help and suggestions. She ROCKS!
I noticed Jessica posted about doing round 2. I know that I am going to continue this on my own no matter what. I will just be keeping track of my points. I also know Jessica isn't the only one who wants to continue. So if you want to go again, maybe we could modify a bit if needed, leave a comment or post something on the blog. I will say that I can't be in charge again. Jeff says it makes me crazy. But I would love to play again. And by the way he has put the kabosh on me working out for 2 hours (so have I, it kinda sucked) so anybody who gets the crazy in them can go ahead and try to beat me. :)

Round 2 Anyone?
Hey girls! These past 6 weeks went by too quick. The challenge was tough but it was one of the best things I have ever done as far as sticking to a healthy eating plan and working out. I usually say "I will start on Monday" and by Wednesday night I am chowing down on some junk food.
Anyways, I just wanted to see if anybody would be up for another round of the Healthy Habits Challenge? It would be a great way to stay motivated over the Holidays!

Some Tips and Tricks
Here are a few tips and ideas to keep your healthy going. Hopefully you have noticed changes and don't want to slip back into old habits. I know I don't. We don't have to be as crazy, give yourself a break now and then but keep yourself healthy by sticking to some of the habits or changes you feel you have made.
This one was from pinterest.
TIPS TO LOSE WEIGHT
1. Keep a food journal ( I use my fitness pal)
2. Drink 8 cups of water a day
3. Eat more greens
4. Cook with fat free broth
5. Eat whole grains but keep carbs to a minimum
6. Measure everything!! (this is huge)
7. Use skim milk
8. Take your time eating
9. Use smaller plates
10. Exercise (you have to push yourself to see results)
11. Eat more seafood
12. Use meat as a condiment
13. Eat more fiber
14. Eat more veggies
15. Eat healthy snacks
This next info is from the P90X newsletter i get. I have paraphrased a bit.
10 POPULAR DIET TIPS TO IGNORE
1. BAD: Choose fat free or sugar free foods
GOOD: Fat, sodium and chemicals replace the fat and sugar. Stick with the original version and watch your portions. Eat unprocessed foods.
2. BAD: No Cheating ever!
GOOD: Relax your rules to stick it out long term. If 80% of your diet is tight then 20% can be a party. Plan splurges ahead of time so you don't give into temptation
3. BAD: Stop snacking
GOOD: Choose snacks that offer a balance of protein, fiber and healthy fats. Healthy snacks maintain blood sugar, keeping your appetite in check and energy stable.
4. BAD: Don't eat fruit - it's full of sugar
GOOD: Let fruit satisfy your sweet tooth. Its vitamins, minerals and fiber out way and slow the absorption of the sugar.
5. BAD: If it's organic - it's good for you
GOOD: Just because they may be processed without hormones, antibiotics and pesticides does not mean these organic foods are low in calories. Use common sense.
6. BAD: Calories in, calories out - it doesn't matter what you eat
GOOD: What you are eating matters! 100 calories of candy bar does not equal 100 calories of avacado. Eat foods that are loaded with water and fiber to help you feel fuller such as spinach, broth soups and veggies.
7. BAD: Try XYZ extreme diet
GOOD: Find a plan that works for you. Gender, age, metabolism, genetics and lifestyle all play a role in weight loss. What works for one person doesn't work for everyone. Find a healthy long term strategy that fits your lifestyle.
8. BAD: When in doubt order the salad
GOOD: Leafy greens and veggies are great but not if they're slathered in creamy dressing and covered in bacon and croutons. Fatty fixings add 100's of calories to your meals. Order dressing on the side and limit your add ons.
9. BAD: Don't exercise - it makes you hungrier
GOOD: Get moving! An hour workout improves your cardiovascular health and strengthens bones. As long as your eating clean your body will self regulate and you won't pack on the pounds.
10. BAD: Treat yourself for a job well done
GOOD: Rethink your reward system. A workout doesn't earn you a cocktail or cupcake. Splurging all the time will undo all your hard work. Take a break on the weekends. The best reward for a killer workout is getting one step closer to the body you want.
These techniques are like the old "teach a man to fish adage", if you give someone a gimmicky diet, they might lose weight for now but provide them with knowledge and they can be healthy for life.

The Final Week
Hello Ladies,
I can't believe we are heading into our last and final week of this Healthy Habits Challenge. I actually wish it was going to keep going. If there are any of you out there who would like to keep going too, please let me know. I have seen some massive changes and it's nice to know that there are others out there who are working hard as well, just need that little extra bit of motivation. Also wanted to apologize for not posting as much on the blog as I wanted to. Life and stuff got in the way ya know. So I hope we can finish up strong.
First and second place prize will go to highest number of points.
The third place prize will go to the person who lost the largest % of body weight, biggest loser style. So here is the formula:
At the end of next week when you send me your points/cheats/drawing also send me your % of weight loss. Just that #, you don't need to send me your starting and beginning weight. So third prize is kind of a mystery. I'm excited to see who will take that one.
Here is the prize money breakdown:
We started with 30 people, giving us $600 even.
We used $120 for gift certificates. ($10/week x 2 winners/week = 20 x 6 weeks = $120)
Leaving us 600-120=$480
So
1st Prize = $200
2nd Prize = $160
3rd Prize = $120
A nice even $40 separates each winner.
It takes 4 weeks for you to notice your body changing. 8 weeks for your friends and 12 weeks for the rest of the world. Don't quit.
6 weeks to go. I'm gonna take that challenge and keep it going.
Thanks for Playing,
Chelsa

-
-
1
Divide number of pounds lost by the starting weight.
-
2
Multiply the answer to step 1 by 100
- 3 Example: 40 /330 x 100 = 12.12%
-
1
Divide number of pounds lost by the starting weight.
